Whether you’re designing your home, an office space or an apartment, finding the best ways to maximize your space is a must. Here are a few tips to get you started!
One of the most important ways to maximize your space is to use lighting. Make sure to include plenty of windows, doors and skylights throughout your home.
Jumbo Glass
Large-scale architectural glass has become a trend in small architectural designs. It allows architects and designers to energize and illuminate interiors with natural light and impress at first sight with larger than life designs.
It also minimizes the visual impact of metal framing to allow people to see more of their surroundings. This is especially useful for spaces that are tight on space.
Another advantage of jumbo glass is that it can be fabricated with a variety of superior coatings. High-performance Guardian SunGuard(r) coatings are available on clear and UltraClear(tm) low-iron float substrates at 6, 8, 10 and 12mm thicknesses.
The ability to manufacture jumbo glass with these superior coatings has made it easier for fabricators to provide architects and owners with an array of aesthetic options. It also means that fabricators can produce glass that meets performance and energy codes without sacrificing design.
Frameless
Frameless doors and windows are becoming increasingly popular in luxury residential properties, especially vacation homes. Not only do they add a super-modern appeal, but they also allow for increased natural light.
Moreover, they can be installed without any obstructions, which makes them perfect for coastal and beach properties. They also meet strict hurricane codes and are certified by the Florida Product Approval program.
When it comes to kitchen design, frameless cabinets are a great way to maximize space and increase storage. Unlike framed cabinetry, frameless cabinets do not have frames around each door opening, allowing for full access to the interior and all available storage.
In addition, frameless glass is ideal for bathrooms and shower room areas. It can be used to create a seamless shower surround that complements today’s minimalist trend, while ensuring that the bathroom is fully protected against humidity and water.
Optical Illusions
Optical illusions can be fun, but they also tell us a lot about how the brain and perceptual system function. The effects of color, brightness, light source, and arrangement of images can lead to a variety of misleading visual effects.
Several optical illusions exploit a concept called shape constancy, which describes the brain’s ability to understand that familiar objects have consistent shapes and sizes. Unfamiliar objects do not follow this rule, which is why some objects appear to change size when viewed from different angles.
A well-known example is the Kanizsa’s triangle. In this illusion, a floating white triangle is seen. This can be explained by gestalt theory, which says that the brain has a need to see familiar simple objects. Objects that have form and edges are often more meaningful to the brain. This is how we perceive objects like a building. It is important to keep this in mind when designing architectural structures.
Elevation
Elevation is the height of something above a fixed point or datum, such as the Earth’s surface. Elevation is also used to measure other things, like your body temperature or the amount of precipitation in a place.
As Miami becomes more and more exposed to rising seas, the city is trying to make its buildings and neighborhoods more resilient. It’s an effort that involves solutions as simple as better storm drains and as ambitious as a platform city.
During my visit to the city’s resilience officer Jane Gilbert, she showed me a map on the wall that highlighted the many low-lying areas that are threatened by flooding. She also talked about the city’s plans to re-engineer Jose Marti Park, a peaceful green space along the Miami River, which is prone to tidal flooding.
